Welsh Government decide not to increase £100 maximum charge

The Welsh Government announced they will not be increasing the £100 maximum weekly charge that people can pay towards their own care in Wales.

The Welsh Government consulted earlier in the year on whether to increase the charge, given concerns about the need for additional social care funding. The consultation revealed concerns about inconsistencies in how means tests were currently being implemented in different parts of Wales.

The Welsh Government has decided to address inconsistencies and increase funding to local authorities (by £2.5m this year and £5m for following years) to compensate for the charge not being increased. We welcome additional funding for the sector and a more consistent approach.
