Social Care Wales have published the findings of the the Social Care Wales Workforce Development Grant (SCWWDP) end-of-year monitoring for 2023 to 2024. While we welcome Workforce Development Funding, the data shows that over 75% of funded training places were for public sector staff, despite 63% of the workforce being in commissioned services. The report says "This has been an area of focus in the grant circular over the past few years where we stated: “The grant must be used to support equality of access to all types of social care providers in each region, and spend should be broadly reflective of the profile of the sector in the local authority and region.” But it’s clear from the data that the progress towards training take-up and attendance to broadly reflect the profile of the sector isn’t progressing as we anticipated. This area will be strengthened even more as part of the 2025/2026 grant circular".

Social Care Wales have produced new training videos for managers on strength based practice.

The finalists have been announced for the 2025 Social Care Accolades - the awards ceremony will take place on 1 May.
