Uniform tax relief update

The uniform tax relief guidance, which offers tax relief for staff who have costs associated with laundering uniforms at home, now explicitly says that domiciliary care workers can claim the relief.

This guidance is available here:

Check if you can claim flat rate expenses for uniforms, work clothing and tools - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

There was some confusion about whether homecare staff could claim tax relief on laundering uniforms as the guidance appeared to suggest that this was for nurses and care home staff.

At our request, HMRC have now added the words 'domiciliary care workers' to the list of industries and jobs so that it now reads:

"Healthcare staff in the National Health Service, private hospitals and nursing homes: b. nurses, midwives, chiropodists, dental nurses, occupational, speech, physiotherapists and other therapists, healthcare assistants, domiciliary care workers, phlebotomists and radiographers"
