SweetTree’s dedication to clients recognised in the Independent’s Business Profile Report

A Best of British Businesses feature by the Independent’s Business Profile Report shows how SweetTree’s dedication to those it serves is changing lives.

Leo’s Story

Leo is a young man who sustained a traumatic brain injury five years ago. Before the injury, Leo was an independent and active individual, deeply engaged in his community and passionate about nature and cultural activities. However, the brain injury left him unable to perform daily tasks independently.

Recognising the need for professional assistance, Leo's case manager referred the family to SweetTree Home Care Services. SweetTree assigned him a dedicated team of Specialist Brain Injury support workers who worked with Leo to rebuild his life.  One team, member Kevin played a very special role in his recovery.

For more than two years, Kevin worked closely with Leo, focusing on rebuilding his confidence and independence. Kevin's approach was holistic and personalised, aimed at understanding his specific needs, preferences, and challenges.

After just over three years of dedicated support, Leo has reached a level of independence where he no longer requires regular assistance from a support worker. He has since given multiple talks at universities, discussing his life after the brain injury and how he overcame the associated challenges. He often emphasises that the experience, though challenging, has made him a better person.

Roger’s Story

Roger is a 79-year-old man with a love for music and culture. Around two years ago, his wife contacted SweetTree to arrange care and companionship to help, when she couldn’t be there to support him. Maira, a SweetTree support worker, soon became Roger’s main carer, developing a unique bond of mutual trust and respect.

Roger has nothing but praise for Maira, highlighting how she has positively impacted his life and how she helped him to become more social and active. On her side, Maira emphasises the importance of the routine they have built together, including socialising with a regular group at a local café, which has significantly improved Roger’s physical and mental health. Together, they have set some future goals to build on his independence and ensure the highest possible quality of life for him.
