In August, the Homecare Association joined 30 other sector organisations and signed an open letter to the new Health and Social Care Secretary, Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP.
Following the general election and the appointment of the new cabinet, we collaborated with other voices from across the sector to raise concerns with the new government’s decision to scrap funding that was set aside for the training and upskilling of social care workers.
The Health and Social Care Secretary has responded to the open letter, stating:
“I want to assure everyone working in the adult social care sector and those drawing on care and support, that we are dedicated to building the consensus for a new system that transforms how care and support is delivered - that includes long overdue reform of the social care workforce.”
We thank the Minister for his response and we look forward to working with him and our sector colleagues to improve social care for all.
