The High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight has praised Right at Home Isle of Wight for organising a “brilliant” event aimed at supporting older people on the Island to live well at home for longer.

More than 500 Islanders attended the Older Person’s Good Living Show at Sandown Airport on Saturday, August 17th.

The event, organised and hosted by Right at Home Isle of Wight, saw over 40 services sharing their advice, information and expertise on how older people can live happily, independently and safely in their own homes.

Exhibitors included Age UK IW, Alzheimer Café IW, Grace’s Bakery, South Wight Neighbourhood Police, Hurst’s, Wiltshire Farm Foods and many more.

Attendees also enjoyed hourly workshops, live music, a Pilates session, food and a raffle.

The High Sheriff, Graham Bliss, attended the show and spent time meeting with all exhibitors and Right at Home Isle of Wight Owners, Vicky and Paul Butler.

Praising the organisers, he said: “What a brilliant event. It’s amazing to have so many businesses together and give older adults and their families a chance to meet them all in one place.”

Vicky Butler, who launched the Older Persons Good Living Show with her husband Paul at the Ventnor Botanical Gardens last year, said of the second annual event: “We were so proud to welcome over 500 attendees this year. None of this could have been achieved without the support of Sandown Airport for allowing us to hold our event there free of charge, the local businesses and community groups who attended the event and our extremely hardworking volunteers who supported in ensuring the day was well organised.

“The number of hours and hard work from the whole team has been more than rewarded by the amazing feedback we have received and the attendance from the public. Thank you to everyone involved.”
