People in Scotland to go into lockdown from 5 January 2021

The First Minister has announced a lockdown to curb the spread of the new variant of COVID-19.

A legal requirement will come into effect to stay at home from midnight, 4 January 2021.This will apply in Scotland for the whole of January. Those in level 4 cannot leave home except for an essential purpose and people should work at home if they can. People can only travel to work if they cannot work from home.

A maximum of two people from up to two households can meet outdoors, not including children aged 11 and under, who can play outdoors in larger groups. All others, including 12 to 17-year-olds, can only exercise outdoors if they comply with the two households rule.

No-one can travel in or out of Scotland unless it is essential.

Schools will move to online learning and stay closed until 1 February except for children of key workers and vulnerable children.
