The Care Provider Alliance has worked LGA, ADASS, Social Care Institute for Excellence, Mencap, Skills for Care, Think Local Act Personal, and Social Care Future to produce the publication Earlier action and support: The case for prevention in adult social care and beyond. CPA say prevention is a central feature of the new Government’s mission-led approach to national renewal. DBS guidance updated to reflect fee increase
The guidance DBS checks: guidance for employers has been updated to reflect fee changes from 2 December 2024. Other DBS guidance has also been updated, as has information about the Homecare Association's DBS service.
Consultation on government proposals to regulate health service managers
The government is consulting on proposals to regulate health service managers and on the possibility of introducing a professional duty of candour for NHS mangers. Regulation will prevent individuals with a record of poor performance or misconduct to continue to work in the health service. Options being considered include a voluntary accreditation register, statutory barring mechanisms and full statutory registration. The consultation close on 18 February 2025. Secretary of State commits to first ever men’s health strategy
Secretary of State Wes Streeting has confirmed plans for a men’s health strategy which will address the biggest issues affecting men of all ages that are costing lives. This could include heart disease and strokes, prostate cancer and testicular cancer, as well as mental health and suicide prevention. The Strategy, due out next year, will form a key part of the government’s 10 Year Health Plan to fix the NHS. A call for evidence will be launched in due course. More information.
Report published on Right Care, Right Person policy
The University of York, York St John University and The King’s Fund have published a report Exploring health and social care perspectives on the implementation of Right Care, Right Person, under the National Partnership Agreement which looks at the ‘Right Care, Right Person’ policy designed to end the inappropriate and avoidable involvement of police in responding to incidents involving people with mental health needs. The report explores the views of health and care staff, emerging impact on practice and issues regarding implementation.
