The Home Office and The Department of Health and Social Care published joint research evaluating the Right Care, Right Person (RCRP) approach. The study examined implementing the approach from public services perspective, including health and social care.

Right Care, Right Person aims to ensure that the right person, possessing the right skills, training, and experience, responds to the needs of people of all ages requiring health and/or social care.

Main findings from the research include:

  • Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) highlighted that a lack of communication and clarity between services posed a risk of implementing RCRP.
  • ICBs and local authorities (LAs) noted that the lack of workforce shortages across the sector creates gaps in capacity of the approach. This, at times, made it difficult to determine who would respond to calls.
  • When asked, both LAs (29%) and ICBs (50%) stated that funding was the largest barrier to implementation in their area.
