The Department for Work and Pension (DWP) are urging pensioners to check if they are eligible for Pension Credit to secure their winter fuel payment, as recent statistics estimate that 880,000 households who are eligible for the support have yet to claim.
The Chancellor, Rt Hon Rachel Reeves announced in July that the government had made the decision to reduce winter fuel payments for pensioners as part of a series of measures to “fix the black hole in public finances”.
Now the Winter Fuel Payment, which provides applicants between £100 - £300, is set to be means tested. Read more here.
The Department has said that around £1.3 million households in England and Wales will continue to received the payments.
