The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Rt Hon Liz Kendall MP, announced her intention to bring forward an independent review that will look into the issue of overpayments of Carer’s Allowance.

In her written statement, she said: “The review will investigate how overpayments of Carer’s Allowance have occurred, what can best be done to support those who have accrued them, and how to reduce the risk of these problems occurring in the future.”

The review will be led by Liz Sayce OBE, former Chief Executive of the charity Disability Rights UK.

As Carer’s Allowance is a devolved matter in Scotland and Northern Ireland, the review will cover England and Wales.

Further information will be published shortly. We will keep members up to date on the progress of the review.
