Guidance for health and social care

Following the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) declaration of the mpox clade I outbreak as a public health emergency (PHEIC) in mid-August 2024, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has developed comprehensive guidance with health and social care partners.

While the outbreak continues to affect new countries, the UK has recorded no confirmed cases.

The risk of an mpox clade I case in the UK remains low and, after reviewing the situation, UKHSA has determined that the guidance for returning health and social care workers will remain in draft for the foreseeable future.

UKHSA will engage with stakeholders and provide further updates if the risk level changes.
