The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has published principles for risk assessment and follow-up of contacts of confirmed clade Ib mpox case.
This guidance supports risk assessment and contact categorisation to ensure appropriate public health and isolation advice.
Separate guidance is available for the management of contacts of clade II mpox cases.
To date, there have been five confirmed cases of Clade Ib mpox in England. UKHSA confirms that the risk to the UK population remains low.
This week the government announced £5.5 million for research into transmission, new vaccines and treatments to tackle the mpox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring countries. This funding is part of the government’s international response to mpox.
