Carers UK has published  the findings from two new reports to raise awareness of the rights and entitlements of unpaid carers.

The State of Caring 2024 survey found that over half of working carers (56%) don’t feel they can use their statutory right to Carer’s Leave because they are worried about the financial implications of taking time off work unpaid. And 78% of working carers responding to the survey said access to paid leave would better help them balance their working responsibilities with caring for a family member, friend or neighbour. Carers UK is calling for the Government to introduce a new statutory right to five days of paid Carer’s Leave through the passage of its Employment Rights Bill.

New research from the Centre for Care, published in collaboration with Carers UK, found that the economic value of contributions made by unpaid carers in the UK is now £184 billion a year. These reports highlighted the value of care in England and Wales (£162 billion), Northern Ireland (£5.8 billion), and Scotland (£15.9 billion).
