Additional funding for staffing in social care

The Department for Health and Social Care has announced that they will be providing an additional £120 million in funding for local authorities in England in order to boost staffing levels in the social care sector.

The press release (available here) makes clear that this funding can be used by local authorities for costs associated with:

  • Providing additional care staff where shortages arise;
  • Supporting administrative tasks so experienced and skilled staff can focus on providing care; and
  • Helping existing staff to take on additional hours if they wish with overtime payments or by covering childcare costs.

We are seeking further clarification about whether and how this funding may be accessible to care providers.
